I know that many of you have been in suspense of the 2009 SSPH Spring Cake Off and the results (and photos) are in. For those of you who do not know Drew's family I will give some insight as to the great idea of the cake off.
Drew, Leah, Laura are cake fanatics.(sometimes Adam) They love cake. Most gatherings with these three usually end up with a cake being baked and seeing how much time Laura can wait before she has to frost it. Funny story-- For Christmas one year, Leah and Laura bought Drew 10 cake mixes and wrapped them indiviually and gave them to him as a gift.
One day Laura,Drew and I decided to see who could make the best cake. We decided to hold this competition on Easter and let the family decide who had the best cake. The night before Easter,Ann (Drew's mom) called wanting to know the criteria for the cake off and if she could enter. (Anyone that knows Ann, knows how competitive she is and has to enter no matter what) We said bring it on and it became a family event. Ann then called Beth (Drew's aunt)and told her that she had to bake a cake. Laura decided to call Pete,Karen,Zach and Tina to participate and of course they also accepted. And a call to Spearfish to Paul,Mimi,Kaija and Audrey (Drew's uncle,aunt and cousins) counted in another cake. Now remember this is the night before Easter, the cake off is on Easter, giving these contestants only a few hours to come up with a masterpiece worthy enough to win the cake off.

The pictures will explain the rest of the story although it should be mentioned the Beth did win "best tasting" with her chocolate cake with strawberries, Tina won "best looking" and "looks better than it tastes", Laura won "tastes better than it looks", Kaija won "most creative". I think we had more cake at Easter this year than some people have at a wedding,but it was alot of fun to see what everyone came up with.

The SSPH stands for the Simmons,Swisher,Palmer,Henrichsen Cake Off and because it was so successful the family has now decided to hold the 2009 SSPH Summer Pie Off this July.
